The year 2018 was when long-simmering concerns about the potential negative effects of technology on our economy, on our personal lives and even on our democracy broke into public debate. But what is behind this reaction? In this lecture, Dr. Owen will explain how companies like Facebook, Twitter and Google went from universally loved to the source of serious questions about the integrity of our society and democracy. Do you have a writing project you need to finish but are struggling to make it happen? A thesis? A grant? A book chapter? Taking a passive approach won’t work; you need a plan. In this two-part series, we will work through some concrete strategies you can use to take control of your writing project, and get it done. As William Faulkner said, “Don’t be ‘a writer’. Be writing”!
