Our unique program prepares graduates to examine, model and improve the energy and environmental performance of existing buildings; support the design, construction and operation of new, sustainable buildings; implement renewable energy technologies; and support new approaches to understanding and managing energy use on campuses, in neighbourhoods or whole cities. At one time we paid little attention to the cost, availability and environmental impact of energy use – today, these are issues of growing importance to every individual, business and government.

This year’s project topics include:

  • The Cost from Code to Active House
  • NZE Off Grid Tiny House
  • N Building Reskin Project
  • Retrofitting Conventionally Built House by Adopting Passive House Principles
  • Feasibility Analysis of a Nature Home Design
  • DREAMLIFE - A Net-Zero Commercial Building
  • Tree-Hugger Home
  • Regenerative Strategic Plan
  • Toronto Green Film Standard
  • “Black Wood”:  An alternative to conventional wood framing
  • Water Purification via soil stratification
  • A Case Study in Solar Development

The plight of honey bees has been in the news a lot recently, but some of the most important pollinators are native bees who specialize in pollinating flowers that are native to the regional ecologies of Canada. Native bees also have to deal with the loss of habitat brought about by urbanization.

Bee hotels are a fun way of giving back to native bee species. They provide bees with much needed nesting sites that can also help your neighbourhoods grow!

Come out to the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre on April 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to hear a talk about the relationship between native and honey bees and to take part in a bee hotel making workshop.

Humber College School of Media Studies and Information Technology Film and Media Production students to premiere documentaries in showcase.

After a four month process the talented Humber Film and Media Production students are ready to showcase their works of art. On Friday, April 21, 10 documentaries will premiere at the Assembly Hall located at 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive, in Etobicoke. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and screenings start at 7 p.m.

Students pitched, produced, filmed, and edited these documentaries in groups of four and five. The films range on a variety of topics such as fad dieting, the world of cosplay, and the importance of learning. With a diverse lineup there will be something interesting for anyone who comes out to support the students and the arts.

“We poured our hearts and souls into these films and are proud to finally get to share them with friends, family, faculty, and honoured guests.” said Devika Smith, member of the Humber Documentary Screening Committee.

This event will be free for everyone attending and all donations will go towards fundraising initiatives made by the Humber Film Committee.

The third year film makers are a diverse group of about 50 film students from around the GTA and world. For information please contact Suzy Queen at suz.queeny@gmail.com or via telephone 647.920.7899.
