In this session, we go beyond conventional diversity training to become gender-intelligent. We explore the biological and sociological contours of sex and gender, how deep-seated gendered behaviours shape communication patterns, problem solving, collaboration, and leadership styles. We then assess how learners can develop a gender-intelligent leadership approach that better harnesses gendered behaviours and improves their organization’s culture and effectiveness.

Rain gardens are beautiful outdoor spaces specially designed to absorb excess rainwater, filtering it as it returns to the soil. Learn how to create the right rain garden for your property, and take a tour of a rain garden at the Humber Arboretum. Participants will receive a free copy of the Greening Your Grounds Homeowner's Guide.

Please come prepared to spend up to 30 minutes outdoors, rain or shine.

Humber College’s School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in association with the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) presents its third annual interdisciplinary conference “Truth, Lies, and Manufacturing Memory” October 28th and 29th at the Harbourfront Centre.

Our keynote is New York Times Reporter, Author, & Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges speaking on "The Price of Journalism in a Post-Fact World."

Chris Hedges has written for Foreign Affairs, Granta, The New Statesman, Harper’s, Mother Jones, The Nation, Adbusters, and The New York Review of Books. He writes a weekly column for Robert Scheer’s web magazine Truthdig.com and is a senior fellow at The Nation Institute.

In preparation for the event, the IFOA asked Chris Hedges 5 questions and his answers can be found here: ifoa.org/2016/five-questions-with/5-questions-chris-hedges

The conference aims to facilitate cross-disciplinary discussion among scholars and researchers who study topics on the themes of truth and lies. Some emergent themes to be explored include, but are not limited to: contested meaning, repressed truth, testimony studies, trauma, victimhood, distortion, “lies that tell the truth”, revisionism, selective memory, gaslighting.
