The Mental Health First Aid program provides information about common mental health problems and specific disorders. The program will also cover simple and explicit actions we can take to identify the signs and symptoms of distress and provide meaningful support. Whether you are faculty, support staff or an administrator you will learn useful and relevant information to assist you to cope with mental health concerns in your professional and personal life.

In this two-day certificate program, you will learn how to:

Recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems

  • Improve your understanding of mental illness
  • Minimize the fear and hesitation to become involved when you think someone is experiencing a mental health problem
  • Learn simple and effective intervention strategies.

Available Dates:

  • Friday, October 30 & Friday, November 6, Lakeshore Campus Room A170
  • Wednesday, November 18 & 25, North Campus, Room B106
  • Tuesday, December 1 & Thursday, December 10, North Campus, Community Room.

All workshops are from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

It’s official…after 37 years, Garry Shaw from the Department of Public Safety – Parking Services is hanging up his parking permit. Garry will be wrapping up his time at Humber over the coming month and will officially retire on December 31st, 2015.

Please take a moment to pass on your well wishes to him and we hope that you will join us in celebrating his time at Humber at a retirement reception drop-in scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th from 2pm to 4pm in the Community Room – NX111.

In this 1/2 day workshop, you will:

  • Learn to take control of the "whole" message (vs. the "verbal" message)
  • Understand and manage the environment in groups and larger audiences - this expands one-to-one listening, where the participants practice interacting in small groups (e.g. team meetings) and larger groups (e.g. presentations)
  • Key objectives include co-creating agendas, constructive feedback (rather than point-scoring), and actionable steps following the meeting or presentation.


This session ends at 12:00 noon.
