We've heard that students often feel siloed in their programs and want an opportunity to meet other students from different disciplines. On November 12th at Humber's gallery, this will all change!
Do your students wonder what students in other programs are up to? How do they stay creative among all those textbooks and tests? Join us for the gallery’s first salon event where students can informally share what they're working on and hear about other student projects on campus
To get the conversation started, we’ll have three students from different programs talk about how they become (and stay) inspired in their work:
Sarah Stephens
Sarah Stephens is finishing her final year in Humber’s Graphic Design program. Growing up in a creative household filled with art, music, and make believe, she learned to find her inspiration in a wide variety of places–including the garbage can once or twice!
Jesse Byiers
Jesse Byiers is co-artistic director and co-creator of Living Room Theatre, and of ArteBote Collective. This summer, he self-produced and devised the puppet show c u t . with ArteBote Collective. Originally from Alberta, Jesse attended Red Deer College’s acting program and moved to Toronto in 2011.
Marta Ryborz
Marta is a student in the Global Business Management at the Humber College Business School. She also has degrees in International Relations and African Studies. Her goal is to combine African field experience with project management skills and ethical business initiatives. She believes in social entrepreneurship and seeing opportunities in challenges.
This event is in partnership with the School of Creative & Performing Arts.

The Exchangers!
How do we stay creative among all those textbooks and tests?
We’re all curious as to what other programs are up to, but rarely have the chance to connect and talk about our projects. The Exchangers is a salon which gives students the opportunity to informally share what their working on, learn about students from other programs, and get inspired!

This week's lunch concert will be replaced with The Music of Kenny Wheeler: A Symposium.
Gord Sheard, Brian Dickinson, Don Thompson, and JIm Vivian will discuss the life and music of the late Kenny Wheeler. Kenny, a Canadian composer and trumpet and flugelhorn player, was known for his jazz, but he was also active in free improvisation and even occasionally contributed to rock music recordings. Kenny wrote over one hundred compositions and was a skilled arranger for small groups and larger ensembles.
This is the first event in Composer Week celebrating Kenny Wheeler. The event is free and open to the public.
