Dear Humber College Staff Member,

Humber College is embarking on a North Campus Backfill Project as part of an overall Campus Development Plan to backfill approximately 100,000 square feet of space made available as certain academic schools, departments, and services move to the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). Educational Consulting Services Corp. (ECS) has been retained to undertake this year-long study determining best uses for this space. An essential part of the overall project work plan is to engage the Humber community in a transparent, inclusive and evidence-based space management process that will serve as a framework for future space allocation decision-making.

Accordingly, ECS and members of Humber’s North Campus Backfill Steering Committee will be holding Open Houses to discuss the status of the North Campus Backfill Project and you are invited!

The Open Houses will provide the opportunity for College stakeholders to review and provide feedback about aspects of the Backfill Project, including available backfill space on campus, the space request process, space request evaluation criteria, project timelines, and campus planning directions. ECS consultants and members of the North Campus Backfill Steering Committee will be in attendance to answer questions. An online survey will be available to provide additional comments, should you not be able to attend in person.

Two open houses will take place at each of the North and Lakeshore campuses:

All Humber employees who have attended Humber’s human rights training session prior to August 2008, are required to attend a ‘Pathways to Human Rights, Education & Action’ training session. This includes sessional, contract, part-time, full-time, and work-study employees.

Goal of the Workshop:

To increase and reinforce employees’ awareness of Humber’s Human Rights Policy and its implications for action

Participants at the workshop will:

No Talk, All Action. Launch a Startup in 54 hours.

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9 to 5 p.m., everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, register now for the best weekend of your life! The event will run from Friday, October 24th to Sunday, October 26th.

$50 for students, $100 for community members
