Writing a test or exam requires skill and technique! In this helpful workshop, students will discuss their current approach to writing exams and what they want to improve. Looking at different types of tests (multiple choice, short answer and essay format) and identifying strategies for each of them is an important skill students can gain.

  • When:
    May 29, 2013 2:30pm
Date/Time:
May 29, 2013 - 2:30pm
Where:
North Campus, Room D236

Time: 2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m.

Upon viewing four different scenes from the Academy Award-winning movie Crash (2004), participants will engage in active discussion sessions in which they reflect on their impressions of the actors, situations and themes of each scene. Participants will be asked to discuss the contentious and emotional issues that created the situation as the basis for exploration of their own personal and professional experiences and identities. In preparation for teaching, it is beneficial for instructors to reflect on their
own biases, values, and perspectives and be able to model the types of discussions they wish to facilitate with their students.

It is recommended that workshop registrants view the movie Crash (2004) prior to the workshop.

We are extending the exhibition until Friday, May 31, 2013 due to the overwhelming success it saw this weekend during Toronto Doors Open.

This exhibition highlights the evolution of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital to the present day Lakeshore Campus of Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. For over 100 years the grounds have been a place of innovation, development, and growth in both mental health and education.

Tired of marking that assignment you have given for two semesters in a row?
Discouraged by the lack of time and energy your students are putting into their work? Sometimes all you need is a new approach and some colleagues to help inspire you.

In this workshop we rethink our approach to evaluation in a hands-on fashion. Starting from the premise that testing does not necessarily mean tests and that assignments should extend knowledge not just involve its repetition, we consider how to design and develop engaging evaluation procedures. Bring an assignment you would like to revamp to this session, as we workshop new ways of approaching evaluation.
