Does this sound familiar? Your Blackboard sites have all started to look the same. Each course has the same content, the same color scheme, the same games and the same images. Or perhaps you have been given the exciting, and sometimes daunting task, of upgrading an online course with new content, new images, new assessments and an overall new look.

Fear not!  During this workshop, participants will be coached on how to bring some life back into their Blackboard sites. Under the guidance of one our leading graphic designers, faculty and staff will be instructed on how to modify graphics, how to use some useful online resources to augment their site, how to access over 1000 objects in Humber’s own Learning Object Repository, how to potentially use your School’s eLearning Credits and how an everyday Blackboard site can come alive. Participants will also get a chance to talk, one-on-one, with an eLearning graphic designer to discuss how their specific site can be improved and how the eLearning team can help.

Culture shock is experienced by students in our classrooms. After a period of initial euphoria, students transition through stages as they navigate towards cultural adaptation. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify the stages of cultural adaptation and the challenging behaviours and feelings that may accompany a student through the stages of adjustment. The session will enable participants to understand their students’ cultural conflicts, better manage behaviours and provide responsive resolutions in the classroom.

We can’t actually teach students anything! They must engage cognitively, affectively, socially, and physically in order to learn. Demonstration of learning most often occurs outside the classroom, after the fact…..when students own their learning and apply it to new situations – this is the ECHO EFFECT! Active learning by DOING. It accommodates different learning styles, and gives all students the opportunity to talk.

Come and enjoy a fun, engaging presentation! Participate in active learning as you discover active learning principles.
