The Gallup Organization has studied human behavior for more than 70 years with a goal to help organizations and individuals maximize their performance. This resulted in the design of an instrument and accompanying talent development program that is referred to as StrengthsQuest. The testing instrument – Clifton StrengthsFinder - consists of 180 paired comparison items that are classified into 34 groupings or themes. Prior to this workshop you will have an opportunity to complete the online StrengthsFinder profile survey to discover your top five themes of talent.

In the workshop you will explore your results and learn how to recognize and appreciate the unique talents and strengths of others and consider how StrengthsQuest can be used in your classroom.

While professional boundaries related to education of minors is well documented, there is less information available for those that teach postsecondary students. In many of today’s higher education institutions, technology has a ubiquitous presence and this is driven by the aggressive growth of mobile technologies. From a student perspective, students try to use technologies to restructure and improve their learning experiences. From a faculty perspective, faculty members try to create innovative, pedagogically sound teaching experiences using different technologies. In the case of the tablet, these ultra-light, multi-functional computers allow faculty to incorporate unique software (apps) into their classrooms and distinctive teaching methods using the features of tablets.

Using the iPad tablet, this workshop will explore the basic functionality of tablets while exploring some of the more intriguing applications/apps that faculty can integrate into their teaching methods.

Ever wonder if the lecture you diligently worked on is being digested by your students? Are you curious to know about your students’ opinions when it comes to a certain topic but attempts at open classroom discussions don’t always reveal such insight?

With Clickers, faculty can instantly poll their students and display the results to the class in a matter of seconds. Want to know how many students agree or disagree with a specific controversial issue? Poll your students with Clickers and then discuss the results. Clickers allow faculty to design specific polling questions before hand and integrate these questions into any PowerPoint presentation. Student clicker submissions are anonymous and the results provide faculty with great talking points.
