The transition to post-secondary studies from the high school environment is a time of new independence and responsibility for most students. While students may look forward to this change, they may not have the skills required to successfully negotiate the new realities of the adult academic environment. Research indicates that to become a self-directed learner, students must develop their sense of competence, relatedness, and autonomy. This session will explore means by which these sensibilities can be promoted in the classroom environment, laying the foundation for learner autonomy as a post-secondary student, and as a graduate to their professional field.

As mandated by the fire code the Department of Public Safety will be conducting fire evacuation drills in the month of October 2012.

When the evacuation alarm sounds all occupants in the impacted building or fire alarm zone are expected to evacuate the space and assemble outside the building. When the “all clear” is provided by the drill manager, occupants will be advised to re-enter the building/zone and return to studies/work.

Emergency Response Team members will be wearing their high visibility orange vests.

We thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Formerly offered as "Insights Discovery", this engaging, interactive day-long workshop is now offered as the foundation course for the Professional Communications Certificate.

An individual’s preferred communication style, both for speaking and listening, is very much a function of their personality type. The Insights model is built on extensive psychological research on personality. As a result of this research Insights has developed a support system or map, which can be used to enhance a person’s self-awareness and self-understanding, including “insights into their communications style”.

Come out to this workshop anddiscover how you can relate your style to other people’s communication styles.
