Creating an effective lesson plan is an integral part in delivering
instruction. A well formulated lesson plan provides a guide for managing the learning environment.

In this workshop, the importance of preparation by completing a needs analysis and creating learning outcomes will be explored. The participants will examine suggested elements in a lesson plan, as well as, an effective lesson plan template. The plan will identify what you will teach, how you will deliver the material and how the outcomes are measured. This session will enable par ticipants to design and implement an effective lesson plan to meet the diverse needs of learners.

‘Playing’ with students is a great way to facilitate peer connections and make a point about course content. Games within a class period can be used to ‘bring it all together’ after content has been covered, or ‘set the stage’ for content yet to be covered. Icebreakers
can actually be used throughout the semester and program to encourage students to get out of their social ‘comfort zone’, and connect with peers that they would not necessarily seek out. Whatever your motive, games and icebreakers make memories and add richness to the classroom!

Humber College voluntarily complies with the Employment Equity Act (2005). In January 2012, Humber۪s Employment Equity Questionnaire (EEQ) will be redistributed to all employees. To facilitate a 100% completion rate of the EEQ, the College has invited equity consultant, Maureen Brown, to share information and strategies on the Employment Equity program.

Brown۪s presentation will include: The Business Case for Employment Equity and Inclusion Practices in Post-secondary Institutions, and she will respond to the following frequently asked questions:

1) Why is the implementation of Employment Equity principles critical when
post-secondary institutions are so diverse?
2) What can my department/school do to recruit and retain employees that reflect
the diverse student body?

Maureen Brown is the founder of DiversityTrainersPlus, a company that provides assessment, strategic planning, training and implementation support to organizations seeking to make diversity an asset in their work and service environment.
