What is Continuous Professional Learning (CPL)?

As a relatively new (1.5 years), one-of-a-kind matrix-based service provider, it is not uncommon for folks to still ask me... "So what exactly IS CPL?'"

On the surface, the answer is simple. Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) is Humber's continuing education and lifelong learning operation with ties to each of our six Faculties and two educational business units - COWD and ETS. We offer continuing and professional learning products like courses, micro-credentials and/or certificates, that help to upskill, reskill or reconfigure someone's personal or professional future. Our average learner is 42 years old, has a job, and is female (73 per cent). While most of our learners come from the GTA (70 per cent), we have folks from throughout Ontario and Canada. We also have international CPL learners with more than 24 different nationalities representing every continent.

If we dig deeper we find that CPL is also made up of countless cross-functional relationships with campus services like Marketing, Legal, Purchasing, ITS & Finance. These relationships are further strengthened by the insights and support of Student and Community Engagement, Government Relations, PPDR, CIL, our COIs and ORI; each helping us co-create a positive alternative revenue stream for the College. CPL's various products are centred around industry needs, quality and financial viability.

So, what is CPL? We are an outside-the-box group of innovators and adult-learning specialists who are committed to delivering outstanding, high-quality educational products. We serve as a gateway for great ideas and a delivery mechanism for cutting-edge solutions. We are, by necessity, future-focused bridge builders and barrier breakers. We are HUMBER and with more than 42 (non-CPL) staff from throughout the College who are engaged, like you, in supporting our efforts to exceed learner expectations every single day.

Many thanks,
