Greetings from Black Student Support and Engagement (BSSE) and the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB),
As we approach the end of the semester and prepare for the new year, we are thrilled to unveil this year’s theme for Black Heritage Month, "Roots & Rhythms: Celebrating Black Culture, Creativity, and Community." This theme is a celebration of the profound influence of Black culture, the boundless creativity within the Black community, and the strength found in unity and shared experiences.
Join us at North Campus on Tuesday, February 4, for the opening ceremonies at 12 p.m., a lively and inspiring kickoff featuring music, performances, and reflections on the legacy and future of Black culture. This special event will set the stage for a month filled with connection, celebration, and inspiration.
Throughout February, BSSE has prepared a dynamic calendar of events to highlight the spirit of Roots & Rhythms. Faculty and staff are encouraged to host their own events that align with this year’s theme and to share them on the BSSE Black Heritage 365 Calendar.
For those interested in co-hosting an event with BSSE or the Office of EDIB, please reach out to us at bsse@humber.ca by Friday, January 10, 2025.
Let’s make this Black Heritage Month a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community. We can’t wait to see the Humber community come together to honour the legacies that ground us and the rhythms that move us forward. See you there!
