Climate & Sustainability Professional Development Opportunities

The Office of Sustainability is excited to share some opportunities to engage in climate and sustainability topics this fall:

Climate Action Open Course MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is available to anyone, anytime! This self-paced, online course empowers learners to take meaningful action on the climate crisis. In just three to five hours, participants will explore four key modules covering:

  • Carbon Footprints and Greenhouse Gases
  • Action Planning for Climate Solutions
  • Climate Anxiety and Building Resilience
  • Land-based Learning and Indigenous Knowledge

Learners will finish the course with a personalized Climate Action Plan that aligns their skills and passions with real-world solutions. This is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of climate action, and that of your team and/or students! The Climate Action Open Course can be something faculty could have students take towards their coursework - an easy way to begin a conversation about how every discipline has a connection to climate action. You can learn more about the Climate Action course and enrol at humber.ca/climateactioncourse.

Exploring the Relationship Between Sustainability & Technology

November 18 from 12 to 1 p.m., NX111, North Campus

A thought-provoking session that challenges the assumption that digital and tech-based solutions are always the most sustainable. This interactive will explore the environmental impacts of technology from device lifecycles to digital carbon footprints — and encourage a balanced, critical lens when integrating technology (including AI) into solutioning, exploring how to make more informed choices in an increasingly digital world. The session will be led by Sandra Leutri, Sustainability Manager at Humber, where she manages sustainability-related reporting, communications, engagement, and programming. She previously worked in sustainability consulting for a large tech company, primarily working with a city in Western Canada to help them achieve their net zero goals. She holds a Master of Environment and Sustainability from Western University, and a Bachelor of Commerce from TMU.  Register here: https://simpli.events/e/77998a
