We are pleased to announce the Humber alumni we have nominated for the 2016 Premier’s Awards. The gala will take place in November and we will certainly be cheering on our grads.

Ron Suter

Marketing, 1981
Executive Vice-President, NBCUniversal Television & New Media Distribution Canada

Ron Suter is known as a visionary trailblazer in his industry, playing a key role in redrawing the map of the Canadian Television Landscape. As EVP of NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution Canada, and Universal Studios Canada Inc., Suter works with the biggest players in the Canadian entertainment industry.

A mainstay in an industry that is constantly evolving, Suter's ability to adapt quickly and navigate an ever-changing landscape has helped NBCUniversal remain an industry leader while maintaining a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Under Suter’s leadership NBCUniversal has doubled its sales volume over the last decade.

Jill Andrew

Child and Youth Worker, 1998
Scholar, Columnist, Activist & Community Change Agent

Jill Andrew is a transformational leader in contemporary culture. She’s an award-winning columnist, public speaker, scholar, student equity advisor, youth, women’s activist, and media consultant on body image, empowerment, leadership and representation.

She created Body Confidence Canada Awards (BCCAs), Toronto International Body Image Film & Arts Festival, FatinTheCity and is co-editor of the highly anticipated anthology: In Our Skin: Our Bodies, Our Stories.  Jill is an activist fighting to get body-based harassment (i.e. size discrimination) included as a protected ground in the Ontario Human Rights Code so no child or adult has to be the target of body-shaming.

Laila Biali

Professional Singer, Pianist, Songwriter, Performer and Recording Artist

Laila Biali is an award-winning internationally recognized Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist. Her accolades include "SOCAN Composer of the Year," "Keyboardist of the Year" at Canada's National Jazz Awards, along with a JUNO nomination.

Biali has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Tokyo's Cotton Club and Carnegie Hall in New York City. She has collaborated with many internationally renowned artists in her industry, including Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting.

Biali was recently on tour this summer presenting her latest projects at venues across Canada and speaking at the first-ever 2016 Global TEDSummit.

Peter Dundas

Ambulance & Emergency Care, 1981
Chief, Peel Regional Paramedic Services

An honours graduate in Ambulance and Emergency Care, Peter Dundas is Chief and Director of Paramedical Services, Regional Municipality of Peel, committed to getting the right tools to paramedics so they can deliver the highest level of care possible to the public. These tools include break-through developments like increasing cardiac arrest survival rates as well as faster turn-around times for paramedics in the hospital.

Dundas led the SARS response team for Region of Peel Paramedic Services, and was the operational lead for the Ebola Virus Disease response plans for the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care, Emergency Health Services Branch.

Andy Kikites

Civil Engineering Technician; Civil Engineering Technology
Director, Metrolinx

Andy Kikites is an internationally recognized expert in the art and science of bridge engineering, working with noted international planners and architects on some of the largest projects in the world, including Palm Island, Dubai; Sir BaniYas Island, Abu Dhabi; Tappan Zee Bridge in New York; and currently as Director for the largest transit program in the world, the $40B RER program for Metrolinx.

Kikites has become a highly respected role model to a new generation of engineering students, and has advanced the industry through design innovation. He has authored research papers on innovative materials, structural systems, and bridge rehabilitation and preservation techniques.

Giacomo Gianniotti

Actor, Producer, Writer

Giacomo Gianniotti is an Italian-Canadian actor best known for playing Dr. Andrew DeLuca on ABC’s hit television show, Grey’s Anatomy. In just three years, Gianniotti has become an internationally celebrated actor and Emmy Nominee, after appearing in the hit television shows Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), and Reign, as well as the major motion pictures, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe and most recently, Race. In 2015 he premiered his short film, Still, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Gianniotti has also become an advocate for philanthropic causes including My Friend's Place, All Hands Volunteers and SickKids Hospital.
