All post-secondary institutions in Ontario are required to ensure that students with disabilities are provided full access to the learning environment. This requirement is legislated by the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Humber’s Human Resources Services provides training on human rights and accessibility which is mandatory for all employees. It is the college’s goal to create a community that is inclusive of all persons and supports all members of the community in an equitable manner.
As a professor, you are responsible for participating in the accommodation process including carrying out specific accommodations for students with disabilities, being knowledgeable about and sensitive to disability issues, and maintaining student confidentiality.
A student with a disability is responsible for notifying the college of the need for accommodation, participating in discussions regarding possible accommodation solutions, meeting curriculum standards once accommodation is provided, and working with us on an ongoing basis to manage the accommodation process.
