Artificial Intelligence and Teaching

This CoP will focus on the impact, opportunities and challenges of AI in education. While academic integrity may be a topic at times, this group will focus on the ways generative AI may serve as a facilitator for learning, ways we can support our students in thinking critically about AI, and open time for faculty to share ways they (and their students) are exploring AI in their courses.

This CoP welcomes anyone interested in learning more about using ed tech tools to enhance and facilitate engaging learning experiences. Members of this group will engage in discussions, ask questions and explore solutions, and share examples of the ways ed tech is used in their teaching practice.

The EDI Community of Practice is a forum for critical discussion, exploration, implementation, and review of teaching and learning strategies aimed at increasing equity, inclusion and belonging in the classroom to reduce systemic inequities and their impact on the student in the classroom.

SoTL’s Community of Practice focuses on how we first learn and what we do with that knowledge to increase expertise (scholarship). Ever wonder whether mindfulness exercises can help your students? Skeptical about the latest ideas of gamification in the classroom? What does the research say? This community will explore the teaching and learning research world, to support evidence-informed teaching practices. It’s like a book club, but for journal articles. All are welcome!

Sustainability Champions

This community of practice is for faculty to come together to share ideas of how to incorporate sustainability (one of the Humber Learning Outcomes mindsets) into their curriculum and teaching practices. Do you connect your course content to the interconnectedness of all things, multiple perspectives, and/or teach the impact of an action has on the surrounding environment or community? Have you taught using the Sustainable Development Goals? Have you taught classes outdoors? Are you interested in hearing from others who have done these things? You don’t need to be a sustainability expert – we want to hear your ideas and experiences.

Teaching on the Land

This CoP is open to both those who have experience teaching on the Land and those who have no experience but are curious about how to engage the Humber Arboretum and other outdoor environments as a living lab. We welcome both Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives, in keeping with the philosophy of Etuaptmumk, the gift of multiple perspectives, or Two-Eyed Seeing in the Mi’kmaw language.
