Christine Flynn, Journalism, 2006

How did you meet?

We met in September 2005 during our last year of Journalism. It started out as a bantering kind of friendship that evolved without either of us really realizing it. We didn't start to show feelings for one another until our journalism trip to New York in March 2006.

Tell us about your first date?

For our first date, I picked her up at her place on a weeknight and went to a pub-style restaurant. We spent the evening eating, chatting and getting to know one another better. It was very low key like how we enjoy it.

Do you remember the first time you said “I love you”?

I have no idea how far along in our relationship we said I love you, but it was said and I recall our love declarations coming as part of a mild disagreement about something not nearly as important. I knew I kind of felt it, but since it was my first time, I was unsure and hesitant to confront it. At one point we finally both admitted our feelings and then it was out there.

Tell us about your wedding?

Our wedding was very simple. We celebrated it at one of our favourite places – Niagara Falls. It was me, Christine, our son Sebastian, my brother, and her best friend. The ceremony was at a little place on Lundy's Lane. It was a cold day in March and we did a lot of outdoor pictures in some really cool Niagara backdrops. We all went to The Keg for a nice dinner, and then the others went home and we stayed in a beautiful hotel room overlooking the falls.

Anything else you'd like to share?

The start of our relationship was unexpected, but it deepened from there and has continued to do so over the past 15 years. It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve grown together and our love and friendship feel stronger now than ever. There’s no one I’d rather share my life with.
