At the time of her sudden passing, Bryana had just discovered a place where her talents and passions could thrive. Having a strong interest in social justice, she was studying in the Law and Society program, where her progress quickly showed she had found an ideal place to grow.
Above all, Bryana was driven to learn all about life that she could. She had a great love for the outdoors, for the environment and for sustainability. She also had a natural affinity for technology, animals, and humans alike, and was much loved by her work colleagues as both an extremely caring person and a font of technical knowledge.
As with many young adults faced with the prospect of “choosing a career” Bryana realized she didn’t yet know all she needed to know, and she handled that challenge by going out and experiencing as much as she could. There was never a time, in her high school and college years, where she was not experiencing life by overcoming challenges. One of these was to work in a hair salon in Montreal where everyone spoke only French. She decided to learn French by being completely surrounded by it. This is the type of person she was.
The measure of her character and of her potential may be best seen in the huge outpouring of grief and shock that followed her passing in November 2021. From childhood friends to past employers, work colleagues, teachers, and fellow students, social media lit up with tributes and sorrow from all areas of her life in numbers no one expected.
When someone passes away so young, one must look to the potential that was lost, to put in the place of the achievements and career titles that older professionals would see in a tribute such as this. This is what we seek to remember. We wish to “remember her future” by helping, in some small way, to grow that of other students.
Above all, Bryana embodied grace, humor, and a passion for life in all its forms, and applied these to the challenges that life itself can present. She worked hard for her future, and she wisely took some time to look around to decide what she wanted that future to be. She would agree that everyone deserves that same opportunity.
Please join us in honouring Bryana with a donation to the Bryana Auclair Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will support a student who has overcome obstacles in their educational journey and who has a passion for learning and for the environment.
