Dr. Roy F. Giroux dedicated his life to education, life-long learning and helping others achieve their goals. He was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario and studied at the University of Windsor and Wayne State University in Michigan. After many quality career years in Windsor at Assumption College, Riverside and Herman Secondary Schools, he spent several years as Dean and Vice President at St. Clair College.
He then moved to Mississauga, where he served many years as Vice President of Staff and Student Development at Humber College. There, he enriched many lives through post-graduate programs in partnership with Central Michigan University, the University of Toronto and McMaster University.
He believed all Ontario college professionals should be afforded the opportunity to pursue advanced training and enhance their professional practice. He had high regard for many colleagues throughout his career, and his post-graduate programs prepared countless professional educators with the tools they need to address and solve complex issues. He retired from Humber College as Vice President Emeritus.
He was also an avid sports fan and shared this love of sports with his family. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs baseball organization as a young man. In addition to being a passionate educator, he made time to coach and led numerous teams to victory. Roy valued family and spending time with his wife, daughters and their families. They enjoyed many memorable vacations together, travelling to many parts of the world. The family cottage was and remains a family favourite.
In his honour, the Roy F. Giroux Memorial Fund is being established to support innovative thinking, life-long learning and leadership.
