Kansai Gaidai University is a leading international university located in Hirakata City, Osaka, between Kyoto and Osaka. With more than 420 partner universities worldwide, KGU is known for its strong global outlook, multicultural campus, and commitment to international education.

The Manga Art Institute offers immersive educational programs focused on the fundamentals of Japanese manga creation. Through structured studio classes and guided practice, students learn essential artistic and narrative skills while gaining insight into Japan’s creative industries.

The Summer Program emphasizes learning by doing. Students develop their skills step by step and complete a polished final project such as a short manga booklet or original illustrated work.

Eligibility:

This Summer Study Abroad Program is open to Humber students enrolled in the following programs:

  • Animation–3D
  • Graphic Design
  • Visual and Digital Arts

Please note: This program is non-credit-bearing and does not count toward academic credit.

What You Will Learn:

Throughout the program, students receive practice-based instruction in:

  • Drawings fundamentals and visual storytelling
  • Manga panels, transitions, and pacing
  • Narrative structure, including 4-koma manga
  • Character design and illustration
  • Storyboarding and layout design
  • Inking tools and techniques
  • Screentone and typography for manga
  • No prior manga experience is required
