New Faculty Orientation

Are you a new part-time, partial load or sessional faculty beginning in the Fall 2024 semester? Join Innovative Learning to learn how we support teaching excellence and digital learning at Humber.

Our on-campus and virtual sessions are an opportunity to meet with members of the Humber community as well as the Innovative Learning team. You will become familiar with the services we have to offer that will enhance your teaching experience.

Please note that these sessions are a value-add for our faculty, and your attendance is voluntary. Innovative Learning provides different support from the sessions that may be offered in your home faculty or program.

Getting Ready to Teach at Humber

As a polytechnic institute, our goal is to build career-ready citizens. We do this by developing deep levels of subject matter expertise through an active learning environment. This session will share tips, tools, and templates to help you bring these goals to life and focus on getting you ready for your first week of teaching.

Introduction to Blackboard

Every course at Humber has an online presence in Blackboard, Humber's Learning Management System (LMS), which instructors can use to augment and enhance the classroom experience. Come learn how to get started in Blackboard Ultra.

Time Description
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Keynote Title: Opportunities and Impacts: UDL in Higher Education
Keynote Speaker: Jodie Black
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a powerful framework for post-secondary educators to use when designing learning experiences. From service delivery to curriculum development, from leadership decisions to classroom teaching, the postsecondary environment offers a unique ecosystem for UDL to flourish.
In this keynote address, Jodie Black will explore the opportunities and broad impacts of UDL in higher educational institutions such as Humber College. She will engage in dialogue with the Humber community that encourages a thoughtful discussion on structures, supports and practices needed to fully integrate the UDL framework into practice. Throughout this session, Jodie will encourage attendees to reflect on current teaching and learning practices, pose questions aimed at critically evaluating the potential integration of a UDL framework, and facilitate interactive discussions to foster reflective insights into the integration of UDL.
