Innovative Learning (IL) is Humber’s centre for teaching and learning. IL is dedicated to developing and enhancing teaching innovation and learning across the institution. The department provides a place for conversation and inspiration, to energize and mobilize innovative and evidence-informed teaching practices. It serves as a hub for the Humber community, supporting its vision as a polytechnic education leader.
IL is comprised of two key areas that each play a strategic role in developing, delivering, and assessing Humber’s learning innovation ecosystem – Teaching Excellence and Digital Learning. The activities undertaken by this team align with the strategic and academic objectives of the institution at large while responding to the individual needs of faculty at different stages of experience designing and delivering inclusive and accessible learning experiences.
Teaching Excellence leads and supports faculty development activities, projects, and resources including Micro-credentials, Faculty Orientation, and other training opportunities in support of new and established faculty in their teaching career and professional learning journey.
Digital Learning provides expertise and support for the integration of educational technologies including Blackboard Ultra into every classroom (whether virtual or in-person) and offers technical support, pilots and focus groups designed to explore emerging technologies.
Digital Learning and Teaching Excellence also collaborate to support Humber’s standard for online learning across multiple modes of delivery through a supported course build process.
IL’s team is comprised of an experienced, curious, and skilled group that includes but is not limited to educational developers, learning technology specialists and advisors, instructional developers, educational technology coordinators, inclusive curriculum specialists, faculty support and digital specialists, online build developers, LMS (Learning Management System) and ed tech administrators, assessment specialists, faculty secondees, program support officers, project analysts, multimedia designers, communications support, and instructional designers.
