SPEAKER: Dr. Janet Corral

Janet Corral

Dr. Janet Corral is Chair of Western Group on Educational Affairs and Affiliate Professor in the Health Equity Lab at the University of Ottawa; Adjunct Professor at the University of Calgary; and Friend of The Wilson Center at the University of Toronto. She has served in multiple senior leadership roles in Canadian and US medical schools, including Associate Dean and Senior Director of Academic Innovation. She co-founded the Entrada consortium, a learning management system in use in 20 medical schools worldwide (now called Elentra); and a contributor to the open-source virtual patient project, OpenLabyrinth.

Her research, published in The Oxford Textbook of Medical Education, and top peer-reviewed journals, has focused on innovations in curriculum to enact the learning sciences, technology, health equity, and competency-based education. She has won awards for curriculum design, simulation, and educational leadership, including the AMEE Aspire award for faculty development. In addition to her role as Chair of the WGEA, she is a steering committee member for Best Evidence Medical Education, which is an international collaboration of the Association of Medical Education of Europe. She is a past steering committee member of the Group on Informatics Resources, and the Academies Collaborative, in the Association of American Medical Colleges.
