Dr. Emma Smith has accepted a new role as Associate Dean for the Office of Research and Innovation. Emma’s award-winning contributions to research at Humber and her passions for collaboration, with students and faculty, make her an ideal candidate for this new role.
Emma first joined Humber in 2015 as a Field Placement Coordinator with the Faculty of Social and Community Services (FSCS). In 2018, she became a full-time Faculty member for the Bachelor of Social Science – Criminal Justice degree program, later becoming the Program Coordinator in 2019. In 2023 Emma seconded into the role of Academic Program Manager for FSCS, where she has provided invaluable support to our Social Services Program portfolio.
Emma holds a PhD in Communication and Culture from Toronto Metropolitan University and York University. This summer, she and Dr. Doug Thomson were awarded the Humber President’s Research Award for their work with the Toronto Police Service on the expansion of the Neighbourhood Community Officer Program.
Emma will undoubtedly be missed by all within FSCS, but we are also so excited to see the great work she will do in her new role within ORI.
Please join me in congratulating Emma, as she will be moving to her new role with ORI starting Oct 10th, 2023. The APM position, as well as the FT Faculty position with BSS-CJ, will be posted in the coming days, to ensure continuity of business in the Faculty of Social and Community Services.
