It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Kimberly Carter (Kim) has been selected as our new Associate Dean of Continuous Professional Learning. Kim is dedicated to designing and delivering excellent - and accessible - educational programming so that people build the skills they need to secure meaningful work.
Prior to joining Humber, Kim held the role of Program Director, Communication & Design at The Chang School of Continuing Education, Toronto Metropolitan University. As Program Director, Kim developed an impressive slate of new programming, including online courses in digital publishing, fashion analytics, design management and portfolio making. A trusted team player, she was an active member of TMU’s Academic Standards Committee and, for six months, extended her leadership responsibilities with a second portfolio as Interim Program Director, Faculty of Arts. Before being promoted, Kim was The Chang School’s Program Manager, Faculty of Business.
In addition to administrative leadership, Kim brings over a decade of experience as an instructor, researcher, and consultant. She has taught at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, Okanagan College, and Toronto Metropolitan University. In the private sector, Kim has made significant contributions to the marketing and community engagement strategies of Fortune 500 companies and worked for Scotiabank as its Senior Manager, Diversity & Inclusion.
Kim’s academic expertise is grounded in the field of international relations with a focus on human rights. Having completed her postdoctoral fellowship, PhD, and Master of Arts at the University of Toronto, Kim also holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University. While earning these credentials, she studied and worked in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Israel, mastering the art of listening - and problem solving - in complicated contexts. These experiences will put Kim on excellent footing as we continue to reshape professional learning at Humber and beyond.
Her combination of academic, professional, and personal experiences will undoubtably help us move CPL into the next phase of its evolution and I am tremendously excited about her arrival. Kim will begin her Humber journey with us on Monday, August 22.
Please join me in welcoming Kim into this vibrant and pivotal role!
