Humber Recognized Among Global Leaders in Sustainability

Humber’s commitment to driving climate action has earned international recognition by the 2025 International Green Gown Awards, where we were named Highly Commended in the Creating Impact category.

Humber was recognized for its Green Building Standards — a framework that sets stringent sustainability requirements for all new construction and renovation projects on campus. Developed through a collaboration between Capital Development & Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability, the standards go beyond existing building regulations by mandating zero-carbon design, electrification, and occupant health and wellness features across every project scale. This initiative ensures every new space at Humber contributes directly to our sustainability and net-zero emissions goals, while focusing on resilience for the future.

What set Humber’s work apart was its open, scalable design. The Humber Green Building Standards were intentionally created as a publicly available resource, which can be adapted to any organization or sector, anywhere in the world. Built as a bolt-on to local regulations, the framework helps others raise the bar on sustainable design and construction, accelerating collective progress toward a low-carbon future.

This recognition places Humber among a global network of institutions driving the future of sustainable buildings, reinforcing our role as a leader in the transition to a low-carbon tomorrow.
