I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Merai as the new Associate Dean, Music & Fine Arts, in the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts.
Jason is a higher education professional with more than 15 years’ experience. In his most recent role as director of Student & Community Engagement for York University’s Faculty of Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD), Jason oversaw student-centred services related to academic advising, scholarships, bursaries and awards, peer mentorship, and student retention for 3,000 undergraduate students. He also supported academic curriculum planning and the development of AMPD’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Framework.
Prior to working at York, Jason was a senior policy advisor for the Postsecondary Accountability Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, advising the Minister’s and Premier’s Offices. He has also served as the executive director of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, and an inspector for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
Jason previously worked at both Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber, teaching 12 courses across the Social Service Worker, Community and Justice Services, Justice Studies, and Family and Community Social Services programs. He recently was the keynote convocation speaker for Business & Community Social Services graduates.
A two-time graduate of the University of Toronto, Jason holds a Master of Education in Leadership, Higher & Adult Education and a BA in Political Science and History. His first day at Humber will be August 29, 2022.
