Mentorship Opportunity for FSCS Upper-Year Students

Hello, FSCS faculty and staff!

This upcoming summer, First Year Experience (FYE) and the Faculty of Social and Community Services (FSCS) will collaborate on mentorship programming for incoming FSCS students.

Students can apply online until Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Please share this opportunity with upper-year FSCS students who you think would be amazing mentors for new students.

FYE Peer Mentors make a true difference in the lives of first-year students. Peer Mentors also:

  • Develop key skills
  • Make new friends and network with other student leaders
  • Get credit towards their Co-Curricular Record (CCR)
  • Receive a LinkedIn endorsement for mentorship and leadership skills
  • Receive a reference letter
  • Receive honorariums (gift cards) after training and after completion of the role

Peer Mentors are expected to:

  • Attend mandatory training
  • Maintain a cumulative average of at least 70% in their academic work
  • Connect with a group of mentees via email, text, or in-person
  • Be available for 3-5 hours per week

The FYE Team will contact applicants from May to June and invite students to participate in an interview. Training will take place in mid-to-late July, with the majority of training taking place asynchronously and online. Summer programming will take place throughout the month of August, both virtually and in-person.

Interested students can reach out to contact the FYE Team if they have any questions or would like to learn more.

Students from other faculties are welcome to apply to the general FYE Peer Mentor opportunity, where mentoring begins in the Fall 2022 term.

Thank you for helping to promote this opportunity!

Best,
FYE Team
