Parking Update - August 2018

Parking Update – August 2018
As the Fall semester gets underway and our students, faculty and staff are returning to the college, we want to provide the Humber community with an update on new and ongoing parking projects as part of our campus development efforts. Thank you to the Capital Development and Facilities Management team for managing the many large-scale projects. And, as work will continue throughout the fall semester, we’d also like to thank you for your patience and cooperation as the infrastructure work is completed.

Parking Garage – North Campus
We are completing our 1,000 space multi-deck parking structure with solar array, 16 spaces for electrical vehicle charging and dedicated car pool spaces. The garage, which will offer both retail and office space, is on schedule for completion in late September 2018. The solar panels will generate enough energy to make the CTI a net-zero building.

Daily/Visitor Parking Rate Changes
Effective Tuesday, September 4 both North and Lakeshore Campus parking rates will be structured as follows:
2 hours or less $4.00
2-4 hours or less $6.00
Daily maximum $10.00 (24 Hours)

The short-term minimum rate parking of $4.00 still remains if the stay is less than two hours. Paid parking at both campuses has been extended until 10 p.m. on weeknights. Evening parking is no longer included within the Continuing Education student tuition. Weekends and holidays will remain complimentary parking.

Parking Lots 1 and 13 – North Campus – Parking Permits and Payment
As a result of the parking garage, the security control booths along Arboretum Road have been permanently removed. In turn, the entrance/exits to parking lots 1, 3 and 13 will be redesigned and gated parking controls with card reader access will be installed by mid-September. In the interim, security guards will continue to monitor access to these lots and will be available to provide assistance throughout the transition once the automated gates are functional.

What this means for employees:

  • All full-time employees who park in Lot 1 or 13 will have their staff ID card automatically activated for the card reader.
  • Lot 1 and Lot 13 will be for full-time staff and student permit holder parking only.
  • If you pay for your parking via payroll deduction, no action is required on your part.
  • If you do not pay for your full-time staff parking via payroll deduction or you are a part-time staff who pays for the additional upgrade each semester, your staff ID card will be activated for access after you purchase your parking permit for the fall semester.
  • If you do not have a staff ID card, you will need to get one before September 7, 2018 as this card will be your parking access card. Please visit NX210 to get a staff ID card.

Widening of Arboretum Road – North Campus
Arboretum Road will be widened between Spruce Vista and the driveway to the new parking garage in order to improve traffic flow. A portion of Arboretum Road will be paved between the new parking garage and the residence buildings. This work will be completed in September 2018.
