Support Staff Professional Development 2025

Thank you to all Humber and University of Guelph-Humber Support staff who attended the 2025 Support Staff Professional Development Week held from March 4 to 7. You continue to go above and beyond in your roles to support colleagues, students, and the community. Thank you!

Our facilitators for the sessions reminded and taught us about:

Career Growth and Development

  • Build an effective resume that stands out to a hiring manager, and utilize online platforms and tools to build our professional brand and network
  • Build practical skills for understanding and managing workplace conflicts and challenging behaviours
  • Design goals, evaluate their completeness, and implement a plan to achieve them

Technology and Innovation

  • Access and use Copilot, and effective AI prompting techniques
  • Leverage AI powered tools to enhance documents and create multimedia content - maximizing engagement and accessibility for all learners

Sustainability

  • Implement sustainable IT practices and be mindful of the environmental impacts of AI

Well-Being and Mental Health

  • Respond to a learner in distress using empathy and interpersonal skills, and connect them with resources available on- and off-campus
  • Enhance mobility and muscle activation, and improve core strength, flexibility, and posture through Pilates exercises
  • Reset our nervous system, release tension, and cultivate resilience and self-compassion through breathing techniques and meditation
  • Empower ourselves to create our own happiness through intentional activities, thrive under pressure, and reconnect to our life

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

  • Use tangible strategies to further cultivate belonging, and ensure inclusion isn’t just achieved but sustained
  • Foster a stronger sense of belonging for Indigenous students through relational accountability, and enhance our practices in meaningful, wholistic, and reciprocal ways
