An Update on Humber Inspired

I’m writing today with an update on Humber Inspired and our collective journey to 2030.

Since the day I started at Humber, I have been inspired by our incredible students who are constantly soaring to new heights, the impressive expertise and hard work of our faculty and staff, and by the breadth and depth of our exceptional programming. Innovative and creative work is happening in every corner of the institution every day and it is this work that has positioned Humber to make big, bold moves for our future.

Throughout the fall, our Humber community—internally and externally—shared their ideas to propel us into the future and strengthen our commitment to learners and employees for years to come.

We had over 1,000 people who participated, and I thank them for taking the time to share their important feedback and ideas. I want to let you know that I read every Inspiration Sheet. We generated more than 3,000 ideas that will help shape the future of Humber in 2030 and beyond. I know you’re probably wondering what’s next. I’m excited to share that we are moving into the next phase in which we will focus on framing the Humber Inspired vision based on all the ideas received during phase one. I’m looking forward to sharing more about our new vision with you later this year at the 2024 President's Breakfast.

Humber has been a global leader in career-focused learning and polytechnic education for more than 50 years. Our approach allows students to gain valuable hands-on experiences that lead to their future careers. That’s why Humber is more than well-positioned to be a leader and the first of its kind in the province, nationally and globally. After all, we’ve been there before when it comes to “firsts.” Among many firsts, we were the first to have a Cyber Physical factory installed in English Canada; the first Ontario college to teach health sciences using a cadaveric lab; the first college to offer graduate certificates to university graduates whom, after completing a general arts or science degree, required specific, job-related training; the first public college or polytechnic in Canada to formally adopt the Okanagan Charter, and since capturing our first CCAA national championship in 1991, today we are home to 66 national titles - the most in the country. It is your hard work that has brought us here today, and I know we will continue building on that work together.

Over the coming weeks and months, you will begin to see stories in Communiqué and Humber Today that highlight the amazing work that is paving the way to Humber’s future. It’s clear that we have so much to be proud of and to look forward to. That’s what Humber Inspired is all about. Let us continue to be inspired by one another and inspired by the future of Humber.
