On Thursday, May 26th, flags at our campuses will be lowered to half-mast in memory of Connor Beck. Connor was in the Police Foundations Program. He passed away on May 12th and there will be a memorial service on May 26th at Meadowvale Funeral Center in Brampton.

The Humber community is deeply saddened by Connor’s sudden and untimely death.  The College has been in contact with Connor’s family to express our condolences, and will continue to provide support to faculty, staff and students who knew him. As an acknowledgment of Connor’s significant progress towards completing his program, Humber will be awarding his diploma posthumously to his family in his honour. It is clear from conversations with Connor’s family that he made an incredible impact on the lives of those he came in contact with and in his community.

Seeking Experts in Applied Research and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Best Practices

As part of Humber College’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI) will be undertaking several projects to ensure that EDIB is intentionally and proactively considered in the identification, selection, recruitment, and integration of the applied research team and support an inclusive and accessible training environment for student researchers.

Currently, ORI is seeking Humber faculty or staff members with expertise in both research and EDIB best practices to develop content for a training module for EDIB practices in order to build the skills, competencies and awareness required to examine systemic inequalities during the applied research lifecycle and implement best practices to support EDIB in research teams.

If you are interested to learn more, please contact Tania Massa, Associate Dean, Applied Research & Innovation at tania.massa@humber.ca  by June 3, 2022.

Humber College is committed to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Employment Equity Act was passed in 1986. Recognizing that "systemic discrimination" was responsible for most of the inequality found in employment, the Abella Royal Commission on Equality in Employment outlined a systemic response and chose the term "Employment Equity" to describe the process.

To learn more about Humber’s Employment Equity program, please visit the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion website.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion invites all full-time and non-full-time employees to complete the Employment Equity Questionnaire (EEQ). The information that you provide in the EEQ will be kept confidential and will only be reported in aggregate form for Employment Equity purposes. In other words, the reported data will not contain any personal identification. Having up-to-date knowledge of our workforce representation will allow the College to identify where underrepresentation exists, and to target its efforts toward removing barriers that may exist in the College’s employment systems.

Please note - the completion of Humber’s Employment Equity Questionnaire is voluntary.

How can I access the Employment Equity Questionnaire?

  • Employees can access the EEQ directly in the HRMS by following the steps below:
    • Go to http://hrs.humber.ca
    • Click on HRMS Sign In
    • Enter your Humber credentials to sign in
    • Click on Personal Information
    • Click on Personal Details
    • Expand the section titled Biographical Info
    • Click on the pencil icon to add/update your responses to the EEQ
    • The steps are also listed in the HRMS Knowledge Base titled, View and Update Personal Information.
  • If you require the EEQ in an alternate format, please contact Patricia Suleiman at patricia.suleiman@humber.ca

Please visit the Centre website for Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to the Employment Equity Program.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion thanks you for helping to build a more inclusive Humber.
