HRMS Team

Have you missed our previous announcements?
Don’t know what HRMS is?

The Human Resource Management System (HRMS), is a new Human Capital Management fully integrated, cloud based system that will replace Humber's existing legacy system. The new HRMS will serve as a central source of information for all HR related processes and programs, making it accessible to staff, faculty and other stakeholders through their computer, on or off campus.

Once deployed, the new HRMS provides access to core HR functions, based on your profile as a manager or an employee. Some functionality includes:

  • Entering and tracking attendance
  • Benefits enrollment
  • Entering and approving time
  • Talent management (Which includes Recruitment)
  • And much more!

This would allow HR to:

  • Become Better business partners to faculties and departments
  • Deliver real-time data & information that will improve decision-making
  • Have enhanced reporting capability
  • Streamline processes to enable faster transactions

For managers and employees, the direct access functionality will become the new way of interacting with HR giving you the flexibility, autonomy and a sense of ownership for a better overall manager and employee experience.

As we get ready to ‘Go Live’ all impacted stakeholders will be receiving training information to ensure that the transition to the new HRMS is easy and seamless.

To find out more about the HRMS, contact the HRMS Change Management Team at HRMSChangeTeam@humber.ca.

The Global Student Voices Podcast follows three international students on their journey to “learn how to learn” over their semester at Humber. Our students, Andrey, Aneri and Sean share their experiences on a wide range of topics such as their learning expectations, culture and identity and faculty and mentorship. We recorded their experiences and then shared them with a panel leaders from the Humber community who reflected on what the students had to say.

Postsecondary educators, both in Canada and around the world, are often quick to bisect student populations into “domestic” and “international” segments. While that may be a convenient metric to use in a variety of situations, the result often causes minds to think in very homogenous terms with respect to the thousands of students we host from around the world on our campuses. Global Student Voices was made in reaction to that – we hear from actual international students about their experiences both in and out of the classroom. Through this process, we hear many familiar refrains, about teaching, learning, technology, family, finances and a litany of others. It’s our hope that this series will bring pause to those that are quick to divide our students into a separate “bucket”, and to realize that a student is a student, regardless of the passport they are carrying in their knapsack.

Global Student Voices is available on Apple iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher and Google Podcast.

We are pleased to announce that building NX is the first existing building retrofit in Canada to achieve the Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC’s) Zero Carbon Building – Design certification. Humber achieved the Zero Carbon Building – Design Certification through a holistic approach that includes a complete envelope retrofit that is highly insulated and airtight, including new triple-pane windows. There will also be energy efficiency upgrades to the heating and cooling systems, lighting and a new 25kW Solar PV system in the building.

History of NX Building

Building NX was built in 1989 and was the main entrance to the College’s North Campus and housed the campus’ main library. When the library was relocated to LRC, the five-story building became an area for faculty and public safety offices. The aging building was drafty and inefficient so Humber College’s Energy Efficiency team took on the hard task of transforming it into a retrofit that took the building from one of the campus’ most inefficient, to becoming the most energy efficient building at Humber College and one of the most energy efficient buildings on the continent. Construction for NX commenced in May 2018 and is expected to be complete this year. Guided by Humber College’s 20-year Integrated Energy Master Plan, building NX will see a 70% reduction in energy use that will help reduce the College’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Humber’s Commitment to Sustainability

Retrofits to existing buildings have a very positive impact on fighting climate change. Globally, buildings are responsible for 40% of annual energy consumption and up to 30% of all energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Since buildings last such a long time, there is a huge stock of existing buildings that need to be retrofitted in order for a city to meet its carbon reduction goals. A 2009 report by the UN indicates that the existing building stock represents the most important opportunity to substantially cut GHG emissions however there are some challenges. Building owners often shy away from major renovations due to costs and disruption. Part of the motivation for the NX project was to provide an example to the Canadian design and construction Industry on how to perform deep, net-zero ready, energy efficiency retrofits in Ontario’s climate as well as to encourage similar projects in the future.

You can learn more about the NX building from this case study here. Learn more about Building NX from the press release.
