What is EI?
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is defined as “a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way” (Multi-Health Systems, 2011, p. 1).

The Program:
There are 30 spots per campus (Lakeshore and North) available. Participation includes:

  • A personal Emotional Intelligence score and profile
  • One-on-one EI interpretation with a certified EQ-1 2.0® coach
  • Emotional Intelligence Program personal planning guide
  • Certificate upon successful completion of the program

When does the program run?
The EI Program will run from February to April 2019.

  • Application Period: February 1 to February 15
  • Acceptance Notifications: February 18 to 22
  • One-on-one EI interpretation with a certified EQ-1 2.0® coach: February 23 to April 26

After nine months of collective bargaining, the College Employer Council (CEC) and Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) have reached a tentative two-year collective agreement for part-time support staff at Ontario’s 24 colleges.

The tentative agreement is yet to be ratified. The ratification vote is being planned for February 21. Once the agreement is ratified, you will be provided with the details. Over the coming months HR Client Services will be working with management across the College in implementing the new agreement.

Department of Public Safety Displaying Their Recently Earned CMM Designations

As part of our department's commitment to seek continuous improvement and skills enhancement, I set a challenge for my admininistrative team to attain one of the levels of certification through OMMI (Ontario Municipal Managers Institute) and OACUSA (Ontario Association of College and University Security Administrators).

The professional designation/certification offered through OMMI is the CMM (Certified Municipal Manager) with four levels of certification (CMM, CMMI, CMMII and CMMIII) which are awarded on a progressive points system based on professional experience, education, and ongoing training in particular areas of management and leadership. The Security endorsements added by OACUSA  (Security Specialist, Security Professional and Security Executive) are awarded based on specific industry requirements and experience. The CMM designation with specialty endorsement is a legally recognized credential in the province of Ontario (Bill PR27 - 1988).

I am proud to announce that each of the following Public Safety and Legal and Risk Management Personnel have succesfully earned the following professional certifications:

  • Rob Kilfoyle, CMMIII Security Executive
  • Nancy Deason, CMMIII Security Professional
  • Kathy Branton, CMMIII Security Professional (Kathy also holds a previous CMMIII Emergency Management Professional designation)
  • Keith Pua, CMMll Security Professional.
  • Ernie Colosimo, CMMll Security Specialist
  • MaryAnn Gregoris, CMMll Security Specialist
  • David Yen, CMMll Security Specialist
  • Adnan Salam, CMMll Security Specialist

Please join me in offering congratulations to them all.

Well done team!

Rob Kilfoyle, CPP, CMMlll Security Executive
Director, Public Safety and Emergency Management
