Launch Me workshops are aimed to help Humber Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE) members receive the training and skills they need to take their business idea to the next level. There are sections for the workshop series, with topics including the Lean Canvas, Busines Plan developmentand Effective Pitch training. All workshops are offered at Lakeshore Campus.

 

Workshop Series’ Details

Lean Canvas workshop series start October 2, 2019. Register here.

The Lean Canvas is an adaptation of Business Model Canvas and it is especially designed for entrepreneurs. The canvas focuses on problems, solutions, key metrics and competitive advantages.The Lean Canvas includes aspects for startups to deal with uncertainty and risk.

 

Business Plan workshop series start November 20, 2019. Register here.

A business plan is a formal written document containing business goals, the methods on how these goals can be attained, and the time frame within which these goals need to be achieved. A good business plan not only helps entrepreneurs focus on the specific steps necessary to make their business ideas succeed, but it also helps them to achieve both their short-term and long-term objectives. 

 

Effective Pitch workshop series start January 22, 2020. Register here.

A pitch is a presentation of a business idea to potential investors. If you would like to learn how to pitch to prospective clients, customers or investors, register for this workshop series.

Have you ever had questions about ‘Gender-Neutral’ Pronouns? The 519 describes ‘Gender-Neutral Pronouns’ as the way in which “we refer to each other in the third person” (The 519). Our perspectives on gender identity and gender expression are transforming. The singular “they” has emerged as a preferred gender-neutral/gender-unknown pronoun.

The Culturally Inclusive Educator Certificate (CIEC) program is designed for those interested in the field of teaching or private sector training. The courses within this certificate program provide participants with an opportunity to enhance their intercultural knowledge, communication skills, curriculum development and differentiated teaching skills essential for supporting international students in higher education.

Upon successful completion of the five courses, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.

The complete program is offered in the fall 2019 semester online.

To further support Humber’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, we are pleased to announce that Kevin Viflanzoff has been appointed as Associate Director, Purchasing Services. Kevin will be responsible for partnering with the College’s senior administration to maintain and develop strategic vendor and contractor relationships with the College.

Kevin holds BCom and MBA designations, and has more than 15 years of experience in supply chain and sourcing, having previously held positions of Director, Strategic Sourcing at Revera Inc. and Director, Supply Chain Services at Plexus.

Kevin joined Humber as the Manager, Purchasing in 2018.  Since joining us, Kevin has worked on several projects to align our purchasing efforts across the College in order to meet our strategic goals.

Please join me in congratulating Kevin on his new role with Humber College!

The Teaching in a Digital World Certificate (TDWC) is a fully online program and is designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners with varying degrees of teaching experience in the online and/or hybrid environment. While teaching in an online environment shares many characteristics with face-to-face teaching, it is a fundamentally different educational experience for instructors and students.

The certificate is comprised of three sequential individual courses that are designed to develop essential online teaching competencies. Participants engage as a learner, facilitator and beginner developer over the three (3) courses. Courses are available online only.

Please join in welcoming Christopher Parkes to Humber as Associate Vice President, Legal & Risk Management effective August 1, 2019.

Christopher comes to us from William Osler Health System where he held the role of General Counsel and Executive Director, Enterprise Risk responsible for all corporate legal and integrated risk management activities. He brings with him extensive experience beyond legal and risk management including privacy & freedom of information, governance, employment, human rights, labour law, and business continuity. 

Christopher has contributed to numerous projects and major initiatives including complex corporate commercial matters, financing and procurement, capital redevelopment, contract management and strategic partnerships.

Christopher is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and has co-authored a number of publications. Christopher is also a member of the Board of Directors of The George Hull Centre for Children and Families.
