Dear Colleagues,

It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Ravinderpal Singh, a long-time and cherished member of the Humber community, on February 21, 2025. Ravinderpal was much more than a respected faculty member, program coordinator, and friend—he was an inspiring mentor whose guidance enriched the lives of countless students and colleagues.

For over two decades, Humber was his second home. Since 2008, he has taught and mentored thousands of students while founding the Information Technology Solutions program — a cornerstone that has nurtured many community leaders. His innovative work in developing capstone projects set a new standard at Humber, and his creation of the first bridging program in the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design (FMCAD), renowned for achieving 100 per cent employment in Ontario, underscored his commitment not only to education but also to the successful transition of students into the workplace.

Ravinderpal’s dedication went beyond the classroom. He was always willing to take the time to listen and collaborate with every team member, helping to uncover solutions to any challenge. His legacy is evident in the many former students who have returned as faculty and advisors, continuing his mission to build the next generation of tech leaders.

We have lost a remarkable educator and an inspiring leader. His impact on our community will be felt for years to come, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Please find the attached details regarding the funeral services. In honour of Ravinderpal, the flags on Humber campuses will be flown at half-staff on the day of the service.

Three students walking along a hallway.

Every day, the incredible faculty and staff at Humber Polytechnic go above and beyond to make this a place where students can thrive and where each of us is proud to work. In honour of Employee Appreciation Day this coming March 7, you’re invited to show your gratitude by making a donation to acknowledge one of your Humber colleagues who has gone above and beyond, who has achieved an important milestone or who has made your time at Humber special.

Your gift today can be directed toward one of our priorities:

  • Supporting scholarships, bursaries and emergency funds — Gift a Humber education to students in need, helping them stay on track as they pursue their passions and bright future.
  • Fighting student food insecurity — Provide direct subsidies to help students access food on campus while bolstering Humber’s efforts to conquer food insecurity.
  • Empowering students in foster care — Help students in foster care (or “extended society care”) overcome their unique financial challenges while showing them we believe in their success.

You can also choose to give back directly to your Faculty or department, where you’ll be able to see the impact of your donation first-hand.

Plus, when you celebrate a Humber coworker for Employee Appreciation Day, you can also choose to send your honouree a personalized e-card to let them know that your donation was made and how their work is appreciated.

Join us in celebrating the incredible contributions of our Humber family—make your gift today and help us make this year’s Employee Appreciation Day even more special!

EDIB Advisory Council

We are excited to announce that on Thursday, January 16, 2025, the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging launched the EDIB Advisory Council. This council has been established to support our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment for all members of our community. The EDIB Advisory Council will serve as a key advisory body, providing guidance, insights, and recommendations on initiatives and strategies related to the implementation, progress, and evaluation of the EDIB Action Plan.

The launch of the EDIB Advisory Council is a direct reflection of our commitment to Building Brilliance, where a sense of belonging and equity is central to the academic and personal success of our students, faculty, and staff. Together, we are building a campus where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and contribute to a truly inclusive learning, working and living environment.

As part of this initiative, we are also thrilled to inform you that community engagement sessions will begin Thursday, April 10, 2025. These sessions will offer an opportunity for all members of our community to engage in open dialogue, share feedback, and contribute ideas on how we can continue to make progress toward an even more inclusive and supportive campus environment. We encourage you to register online now for sessions, as your voice and perspectives are crucial to shaping the future of our community.

We have also created an online EDIB Feedback Form where members of the community can share their thoughts and ideas on the implementation, progress and evaluation of the EDIB Action Plan.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable community.
