Announcements

When:
June 25, 2018

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Shaun Ghafari has accepted the position of Associate Dean, Advanced Manufacturing at the School of Applied Technology, effective July 15, 2018.

Since 2010, Shaun has worked in the college system and has held leadership roles in applied research, degree development, community engagement and as a full-time Professor in Mechanical Engineering. Shaun established strong industry partnerships as the coordinator of the applied research and industry projects. He has been awarded several grants from provincial and federal funding agencies, and successfully supervised a team of faculties, staff, and students in a number of industrial projects. His experience in launching new certificate and degree programs will help him to lead the development of new Bachelor of Mechatronics degree at Humber.

Shaun is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. He has more than eight years industry experience in the automotive and energy sectors as the team leader for large motor services with GE Canada and chief engineer in several automotive surface coating projects. His industry experience gives him the insight to improve the curriculum to address the existing skill gap in manufacturing.

Shaun received his MSc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Waterloo, Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research has been published in peer reviewed international journals and presented at several conferences. He is also certified as level 2 Mechatronics Program instructor by Siemens Academy Berlin, Germany.

Please join me in welcoming Shaun to the Humber team.

Sincerely,

It is with mixed emotions and sadness, that I announce the retirement of Emily Eyre. After 10+ years of dedicated service to Humber, Emily has decided to retire effective August 31, 2018 with her last day at Humber being Friday, July 20. While the Financial Services and Planning department will be saying goodbye to a valued team member, we hope to continue our association with her over the coming years.

Emily joined Humber College in March 2008 as the Manager, Purchasing Services and over the years has worked diligently to build the Purchasing department’s reputation as Service Par Excellence. Over the years, Emily has worked with every area of the college, ushered in Broader Public Sector guidelines and directive, implemented accountability measures and reporting. Emily has also given so much of her time, expertise and leadership to the broader college sector by participating with OCPMA, OECM and recently AnchorTO (City’s Social Procurement initiative). She also participated in many college committees, championed sustainability initiatives and helped implement business solutions such as Banner Finance and Chrome River for P-card.

On June 28, 2018 we would like to formally recognize Emily’s contribution to Humber College and request her friends and colleagues to drop by the Humber Room between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to say goodbye in person and wish her well for the next stage of her life.

On behalf of the Humber community, I wish Emily a long and healthy retirement.

As the summer approaches and our faculty and staff take time away from the college, we want to provide the Humber community with an update on new and ongoing parking projects, as part of our campus development efforts. Thank you to the Capital Development and Facilities Management team for managing the many large-scale projects. And, as work will continue through the summer and into the academic year, we’d also like to thank you for your patience and cooperation as the infrastructure work is completed.

Parking Garage – North Campus
We are completing our 1,000 space multi-deck parking structure with solar array, 16 spaces for electrical vehicle charging and dedicated car pool spaces. The garage, which will offer both retail and office space, is on schedule for completion in August 2018. The solar panels will generate enough energy to make the CTI a net-zero building.

Parking Lots 1 and 13 – North Campus – Parking Permits and Payment
As a result of the parking garage, the security control booths along Arboretum road will be removed. In turn, the entrance/exits to parking lots 1, 3 and 13 will be redesigned and gated parking controls with card reader access will be installed as of August 30.

What this means for employees:

  • All full-time employees who park in Lot 1 or 13 will have their staff ID card automatically activated for the card reader.
  • Lot 1 & 13 will be for full-time staff and student permit holder parking only
  • If you pay for your parking via payroll deduction, no action is required on your part.
  • If you do not pay for your full-time staff parking via payroll deduction or you are a part-time staff who pays for the additional upgrade each semester, your staff ID card will be activated for access after you purchase your parking permit for the fall semester.
  • If you do not have a staff ID card, you will need to get one before September 2018 as this card will be your parking access card. Please visit NX210 to get a staff ID card.

For ongoing parking information and updates, please visit: humber.ca/facilities/parking-transportation or contact parking.sales@humber.ca

Widening of Arboretum Road – North Campus
Arboretum Road will be widened between Spruce Vista and the driveway to the new parking garage in order to improve traffic flow. A portion of Arboretum Road will be paved between the new parking garage and the residence buildings. This work will take place in August 2018.

Parking Lot – Lakeshore Campus (future project)
A 350-car surface parking lot will be developed on land purchased at 170 Birmingham Street and Eighth, with shuttles running from the lot to various buildings across Lakeshore Campus.

June 22, 2018
Part-time staff parking permits for the September 2018 fall semester will be available for purchase through MyHumber effective Tuesday, July 10.
