This month, the School of Creative and Performing Arts bids fond farewell to two valued colleagues: Maria Gonsalves and Cynthia Good.
Maria Gonsalves’ career at Humber has spanned three decades, two campuses and numerous programs and workshops. Though she started in Marketing, she’ll be remembered most for her contributions to the School of Creative and Performing Arts, where she has brought her innate warmth and considerable knowledge of the College to the position of business manager since the School’s inception. Maria has spent countless hours tirelessly supporting faculty and staff, celebrating students, and nurturing the professional development of her colleagues -- not to mention singing the national anthem at many President's Breakfasts!
After a storied career as president and publisher of Penguin Books Canada, Cynthia Good joined Humber College as the founding program co-ordinator of Creative Book Publishing in 2005. In Fall 2014, she stepped down as co-ordinator to focus on program and community outreach as SCAPA's first Director of Student and Industry Initiatives, a role that allowed her to focus on special projects with external partners such as The Book and Periodical Council and Holland College (Charlottetown, PEI). With her keen intellect, creativity, and boundless enthusiasm for student success, Cynthia has been the embodiment of teaching excellence and a leader among her peers.
Maria's last day in the office will be Friday, November 25, and Cynthia's, Wednesday, November 30. We wish them continued success and happiness in this next chapter.

For most people, the holiday season is a happy and exciting time spent with family and friends. For those who are going through personal hardship, however, these times can feel even more challenging than usual. Even within Humber College, and for various reasons, some of your colleagues are battling through financial struggles and personal challenges.
This is the first time the Union is running this event. Our goal is to help alleviate some of the burdens these individuals and their families are facing by providing food, clothing, and toys as needed. At this time, we are accepting donations of non-perishable foods, new/gently used clothes, and new/gently used toys.
Any Humber employee who is interested in receiving a holiday package can contact us via email (info@humberfacultyunion.org) or in person (K216). To the best of our ability, your package will be customized to fit your needs. Your participation is completely confidential. If there are no interested parties, all donations will be donated to appropriate charities, such as United Way, Humber student food bank, or local shelters.
To ensure enough time to prepare these packages, please donate your goods by Friday, December 9, 2016.
Thank you,
Humber Faculty Union

I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Price to the position of Director, Student Life within the Department of Student Success and Engagement. Neil comes to Humber College from George Brown College, where he taught for over ten years, most recently in the Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies. Neil is former Executive Director of LogicalOutcomes, a non-profit consultancy focused on strengthening the human services sector through applied research and program evaluation.
Neil has extensive experience working as a program leader, community researcher and youth advocate. Passionate about access to post-secondary education, he has held management positions with Pathways to Education and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Neil’s pedagogical and subject matter expertise, his deep awareness of the multiple barriers that college students face, and his demonstrated ability to foster effective relationships across the college sector, will be invaluable in his new role.
Neil holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from Ryerson University, a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), and a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from York University. He has led a number of programs focused on student retention, and has been an invited speaker provincially with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, as well as internationally with such organizations as the Mozilla Foundation.
Neil’s work embodies a deep commitment to learning, collaboration and facilitation. He is constantly in search of new ways to merge his interests in education, technology and community-building. Neil will be a great addition to a strong group of leaders as we advance our support of student success. He will start on January 9th, and I hope you will join me in warmly welcoming him to Humber
