Your Feedback
Thank you to those who have provided feedback to the Backfill team. Here’s a small sampling of the many wonderful comments we’ve received.
“HRT’s office move went incredibly smoothly. The entire team was included long before it happened, which gave us the opportunity to contribute to our moving strategies, set objectives and create a new etiquette for the new space. Our new area is great because I can see my colleagues and we have a lot of space to communicate, meet and collaborate. I also like that I’m more restricted for drawer space as it forces me to decide on the spot whether to keep an item or not.
- Anke Foller-Carroll, Tourism Faculty
“The School of Applied Technology’s office move was real-life project management at work, as deadlines and deliverables changed, critical paths and budgets were modified and stakeholders were consulted and informed. The experience even extended to the classroom as Project Management students used the office move as a real-time case study.
- Cheryl Francis-Nurse, Co-ordinator, Project Management Postgraduate Program
The Next Phase
As a result of the completion of the North Campus Backfill project and the Student Welcome and Resource Centre and the Fitness Centre at Lakeshore Campus, space has become available at both campuses. This space will be allocated through the new Space Management & Allocation Policy and Procedure.
Applications for this space were submitted in June 2016. The Capital Planning and Space Management Committee is evaluating the requests and will provide recommendations to the executive in November 2016 for the new Backfill projects at both campuses.
Requestors will be notified of their submission’s status by the end of November. Renovation work is scheduled to begin in January 2017 and will continue throughout the year.
Humber’s Supportive Community
The Backfill projects are a significant opportunity to meet the growing needs of the North Campus, providing new labs, classrooms and office space for Humber’s students, faculty and staff. Upcoming Backfill projects will have a similar result.
On behalf of the Backfill Steering Committee, I would like to thank students and employees for their ongoing support and patience during the construction period, along with our staff and partners involved in the planning, construction, operations and communications of the new spaces. Special recognition goes out to all faculty who were impacted by classroom renovations, HRT and Applied Technology for adjusting to scheduling changes, and to the Community Outreach and Workforce Development team who moved multiple times during the Backfill process.
We appreciate all of the hard work that everyone has contributed to the new spaces, and are confident that they are worthy of the effort required to create them.
For more information or if you any questions about any of the Backfill projects, please contact scott.valens@humber.ca, or visit humber.ca/about-humber/campus-development/humber-backfill-project-2015-2017.
Thank you.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Daniel Castillo-Sanchez was recently the successful candidate for the position of Manager, Financial Aid.
As you may know, Daniel has held key roles in Financial Aid at Humber for the past 15 years. He has taken on leadership positions including a secondment to the ESP (Banner Implementation) as Banner Student Aid Functional Lead. Daniel is well-respected by his peers both in the Registrar’s Office and in other institutions, and regularly participates in provincial conferences and initiatives.
Daniel has assumed the position of Manager as Holsee Sahid will be retiring at the end of December. Holsee has been with Humber in Financial Aid in all its many forms for 38 years. Though she has asked that we not have a party in her honor, please be sure to send her a note of thanks or stop by her office in the Registrar's Office sometime before she leaves.
While we will miss Holsee's presence and leadership, we are fortunate that someone with Daniel’s experience and knowledge is able to step in to the role. Congratulations to you both!
Please pass this announcement on to others in your area who will continue to work with the Financial Aid team in the service of our students.

The Premier’s Awards celebrate the achievements of Ontario college graduates in the province and throughout the world, and last night we walked away with a big win for Humber in the Business category.
