On March 18, 2015, The Business School Placement Centre hosted a Lunch & Learn for TJX Canada’s Retail Management Graduate Program (Winners, HomeSense, Marshalls).

The Retail Management Graduate Program offers graduates the opportunity to take on a management role at a retail location. Typically a retail manager is required to have 3-5 years of full-time work experience before they will be considered for a management role within TJX Canada. With their Retail Management Graduate Program, however, graduates are immediately considered for the role of either Assistant Manager of Customer Service & Operations or Assistant Manager of Merchandise.

At the event, we were joined by Natalie Sturino, Central Region Talent Acquisition Coordinator for TJX Canada, who is the recruiter for the graduate program. Also in attendance was Kristina Merciello, a graduate from Humber’s Fashion Management degree program. As the first Humber student accepted into the Retail Management Graduate Program, Kristina was able to share her success story with students and provide insight into her journey.

The Business School congratulates Arfah Sohail, Kyle Falzetta and Krishna Mohammed for placing 2nd in this year's CPA College Case Competition held this past weekend at Fanshawe College in London. These students prepared an outstanding presentation on the cost and environmental feasibility of new drinking water sources for the Canary Islands.

In addition, another team of Business School students -- Soniiya Jahangir, Catarina Vaz and Erica Veltri -- also delivered a great presentation and did an outstanding job representing Humber during the day.

All the students had a great time and described their participation in the CPA College Case Competition as a tremendous learning experience and really tied together the accounting knowledge they learning over the past 3 years at Humber.

The team was supported by accounting faculty members Dan Carli and Nick Bordignon.

Humber College is chairing the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE) Conference Planning Committee. The Annual National CAPDHHE Conference will be held in Toronto, ON from May 20-22, 2014.

The 2015 CAPDHHE/ACPDHMES Conference will examine the shifting landscapes of human rights work in the postsecondary sector. The questions of who’s in and who’s out are pertinent to ensuring that human rights practitioners in Canada and beyond are engaging in true equity work and education. Human Rights Practitioners must develop increased understanding of inequity and its impact on all people in order to support the increased presence of Aboriginal and racialized peoples in postsecondary institutions. At a time when issues of competing human rights, subtle forms of discrimination and community-based activism are bringing new complexities, challenges and opportunities to our work, it is imperative that those who work in the human rights arena answer these questions and develop strategies for redress.

Hosted in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, CAPDHHE/ACPDHMES 2015 will welcome presenters and delegates from different regions, languages and social backgrounds to give voice to the changing climate of equity work throughout the country. This year’s conference will be centred on three unique streams: Institutional Change, addressing best practices and new strategies to move the postsecondary sector forward; Activism and Communities, exploring emerging social justice movements and developing key strategies to support Aboriginal and diverse communities; and lastly, Critical Conversations, where delegates will come together to ask pertinent questions and engage in discussions critical to building more equitable campus environments for all to learn, work and live.

For more information about CAPDHHE or to register for the conference please visit the website capdhhe.org/web/
