SIRF Applications and guidelines available at humber.ca/research/faculty

SIRF is intended to foster original, externally focused research by full-time staff or faculty of Humber College. SIRF funds are intended to provide staff with modest amounts of research funding to explore strategic research initiatives. Pilot studies, proofs of concept and principle, and many other types of projects can receive seed funding through this program.

The SIRF process is designed to be competitive, transparent and equitable. An effort will be made to award SIRF funds across the College (i.e., to applicants from a number of Schools/Departments) and priority will be given to projects that directly engage students in the research process.

Whether your research has an academic or a practical focus, your project may be eligible for SIRF funding. Faculty with industry partner connections are encouraged to apply.

The Humber College Retirees’ Association hosted their annual Christmas luncheon on December 11, 2013, in the newly renovated Humber Room.  This year we had an amazing number of exceptional gifts donated mostly by the college community.  These gifts were used in either the raffle or the silent auction.  Due to the generosity of the college community and our retirees, over $1,500 was raised for the student bursary fund.   From the fund, four students were selected to receive $500 each in 2013.

Once again we want to thank everyone and every department who donated gifts and to thank the many people who helped make this year’s party such a success!  We appreciated that Chris Whitaker took the time to drop in and spend some time with us and the following people for their part in organizing the party: Antonio Folino, Simka Delevska, Garry Shaw and Richard Pitteway.  We especially appreciated the culinary students who prepared and served such a gourmet meal! And last but not least we can’t forget to thank Santa for dropping by at this busy time of the year.
