The School of Health Sciences is proud to announce that the RPN to BN Bridging program received inaugural accreditation from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing. This result reflects three years of effort in providing access to degree level study for our Practical Nursing Diploma graduates. One of only a handful of nursing “bridging” programs in the province, we are especially proud to have achieved this milestone. Please join us in congratulating those involved.

Have you received a notice from the Testing Centre notifying you that a student requires an electronic copy of their exam? Are you unsure of how to go about making your document accessible? It is not hard – just a couple of steps are required!

Use of computer ≠ electronic format

Electronic format means that the student will need the document in .doc or .rtf in order to use assistive software while writing the exam. It is crucial that the electronic format is received two working days prior to the booking date outlined in the Test Centre email confirmation which you received.

Creating Accessible Documents:

Rich Text Format (.rtf) or a Microsoft Word Document (.doc) are the most suitable file formats to use for students who require an electronic copy for their accommodation when it comes to testing. This enables a student to use assistive software, such as Read & Write or Kurzweil, which they require to effectively complete an exam.

It is very simple to create a RTF file extension. If the test or exam has been created in Microsoft Word, please save a RTF copy by doing the following:

  • Click FILE
  • Click SAVE AS
  • The click ‘Save as Type’ and select Rich Text Format (*.rtf) from the drop down menu
  • Click SAVE and voila!

Once you have created this accessible exam, you can email it, along with the completed referral form to the appropriate email address as outlined on the referral form – PLEASE NOTE ONLY DISABILITY STUDENT EXAMS FOR THOSE WHO REQUIRE AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF THEIR EXAM WILL BE ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL. ALL OTHERS SHOULD BE HARD COPY:

North Campus: dstestnorth@humber.ca
Lakeshore Campus: dstestlake@humber.ca
Carrier Drive Campus: dstestcarrier@humber.ca

Please do not send exams as PDFs – this is not an accessible format for adaptive software.
