'Tis the Season ... a Few Tips to Enjoy Holiday Office Parties!

At this time of year office parties are great opportunities to mingle casually with colleagues and staff - getting to know people you don’t see every day, and thanking them for their efforts! Most of these settings involve food, alcohol and entertainment.

  Here are a few tips for mindful hosts:

  • Provide an inclusive environment respectful of cultural and social differences
  • Eat carefully – there will be leftovers!
  • Remember that Humber cannot pay for alcohol, but if you provide alcohol, ensure that it’s consumed responsibly
  • Use the good judgment and leadership skills you practice daily

Create an environment for some great memories for everyone – but not on YouTube!

Humber Named One of the Greater Toronto's Top Employers for 2013

On November 20, 2012, Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning was named one of the Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2013 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. for the second year in a row.

Recognized employers are considered Greater Toronto’s leaders in attracting and retaining employees to their organizations.

 

Staff Transportation and Parking Management Survey

Staff and faculty members are encouraged to share their on-campus transportation and parking experience in Humber’s first biannual Transportation and Parking Management (TPM) Survey, released on Friday, November 16, 2012.

Respondents, who complete the survey by 12 noon on Monday, December 3, 2012, will be entered into a draw to win one of 10 $50 Humber Bookstore gift cards.

Collected survey results will influence Humber’s implementation of new transportation and parking management solutions, designed to create a positive campus experience that supports student success.

Questions about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by the College can be directed to Humber's Freedom of Information Coordinator, Teeter Leinveer, HR Services.

 

Helen Gawryk, Program Coordinator, Education & Training Solutions

After 30 years of service and dedication to Humber, Helen Gawryk, program coordinator, Education & Training Solutions, has decided to retire on December 14, 2012.

Helen graduated from Humber’s Business Administration program in 1982 and then joined Humber in the Continuing Education department, now known as Associations and Partnerships. Over the years, she has been active in OPSEU including serving for Humber as president for many terms.

A retirement reception in Helen’s honour will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Seventh Semester. Well wishes will begin at 3:30 p.m. Please join us to wish Helen well as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.

Contributions to a farewell gift can be directed to Jessica Shrieve or Pat Tait, Room LX104.

 

Irena Dirito Passes Away

Longtime employee Irena Dirito has passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer. Irena provided 34 years of loyal and dedicated service to Humber as a Support Staff Member in the Registrar's Office, Administrative Assistant to John Mason when he was the Registrar and in the last six years as Administrative Assistant to Alister Mathieson, Dean of the School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism. As one might expect Irena had many, many friends and colleagues at Humber. She will be missed.
