On Monday, November 15 Humber will celebrate National Philanthropy Day, in recognition of the great contributions that individuals make to our communities and the world. Humber is very fortunate to have the support of many donors and volunteers who help make it possible for students to realize their potential.

Giving to awards and scholarships is one of many ways to help students.

Awards and scholarships recognize students۪ talent and hard work,۝ says Julie Castle, Humber۪s chief advancement officer. The generosity of our supporters ensures that students are encouraged to follow their dreams and aspirations.۝

Thank you to all who support Humber students and make a difference in their lives.

Receiving this scholarship means that the struggles I have experienced and the work I have done has been recognized. The monetary value of the scholarship lessens the fear that I might have to leave school,۝ says Ebenezer Tiku, Nursing student and recipient of the Anne Bender School of Health Sciences Scholarship.

The Violent Unconscious in Film

Film Title:        Cache (2005)
Date:                Wednesday, November 10, 2010
Time:                7 p.m.
Location:          E135 (Humber North Campus)

Synopsis:
A successful couple has it all: a thoughtful son, prestigious jobs and bookshelves overflowing with the Classics. But they start receiving mysterious surveillance videos of their home in the mail. "It must be a prank," they think, "...or is it?" In the age of big budget, fast-paced action thrillers, Cache keeps us in total suspense with nothing but subtle-acting, realistic scenarios, and a haunting story about how past actions and buried memories can have the power to corrupt a marriage, a family, and a life.

Film Title:        Elephant (2003)
Date:                Wednesday, November 24. 2010
Time:                7 p.m.
Location:         E135 (North Campus)

Synopsis:
Elephant chronicles the day-to-day personal lives of ordinary American teenagers in the moments leading up to a high school shooting. Based in part on the Colombine High School shootings of 1999, this critically-acclaimed film - which won the Palme D'Or at Cannes and was recently named by the AGO/Cinematheque as one of the top films of the decade - sensitively depicts the complex reasons behind such a tragic event, and warns us of what can happen when we collectively ignore the 'elephant in the room.'
