Although the arts and culture sector has been negatively impacted by the pandemic, there is a steady increase of jobs in the sector as arts organizations slowly recover. In this session, you’ll learn about tips, tools, and resources that will help you start your creative arts career.

Mona Afshari - Marketing & Communications Manager, WorkInCulture 

Mona Afshari, is an arts and culture marketing and communications specialist. Over the last sixteen years, Mona has worked for arts organizations across Canada developing and implementing business and marketing plans, as well as educational programs for diverse audiences. With a Bachelor’s in Visual Arts, a Master’s in Art Education, and Graduate Diploma in Management, Mona is determined to bridge the gap between the arts and business through her marketing efforts. As the Marketing & Communications Manager at WorkInCulture she supports the professional lives of artists and cultural workers by promoting business skills and career development resources. Mona is also the producer and host of WorkInCulture’s Success Stories podcast -- covering employer and cultural worker perspectives on securing employment in the arts. 

Diane Davy - Executive Director, WorkInCulture 

Diane Davy is the Executive Director of WorkInCulture (WIC), a not-for-profit arts service organization that supports the professional lives of artists, creative and cultural workers and the organizations that support and engage them.  

Davy is also the President of Castledale, a consulting company specializing in the business of the arts and entertainment sector. Her areas of expertise include strategic business planning, corporate structure and management, marketing strategies, revenue generation, board governance, project management and other related topics.

The Consent Peer Education Program invites all students, staff and faculty to join us in a Move to Heal: Trauma-Informed Yoga class facilitated by Cayla Meredith, founder of the Move to Heal Project.

Not only is Cayla the founder of the Move to Heal Project, but she is also a trained trauma-sensitive yoga instructor. Humber College's Advising & Career Services and Seneca College are excited to announce this year’s bi-annual joint Career Conversations event for current students and alumni (event is open to University of Guelph-Humber students and alumni).

Date: Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. via MS Teams

Note: Prizes will be provided to students and alumni during our survey giveaway ($50-$150).

This event will highlight conversations about career resiliency and how to navigate your mental health and well-being as you grow throughout your career. The journey of resiliency is unique to everyone and our diverse panel will be addressing some important questions on this topic.

This will include:

  • What career-resiliency is and what it looks like in practice
  • Strategies for building resiliency throughout your career
  • How to navigate one’s mental health and well-being to improve resiliency

Trans Day of Visibility offers workplaces and organizations an opportunity to recognize and celebrate trans, two spirit and nonbinary identities and individuals, while prioritizing conversation regarding our safety and well being. But why doesn’t this happen all year round?

Join queer, trans and nonbinary facilitators from Challenge Accepted in an online panel discussion exploring what trans inclusion does and does not look like at work, and how we can all practice intersectional solidarity and how to navigate self-advocacy and self-care in the workplace.

This will be the BAERG's last meeting for the fiscal year 2021, therefore we are expecting to have a great turn out to get your feedback on your expectations for the new fiscal year 2022/2023.   

Humber has identified as its Strategic Priority #7 under Pillar #3, Healthy and Inclusive Community, to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty and staff. The specific supporting action is to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the needs of both students and employees.

The EDI Taskforce launched Humber's Black/African Employee Resource Group (ERG) on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Shernett Bennett and Ellie Braham are currently co-leading Humber’s Black/African ERG. The BAERG meets on the last Monday of every month.

Humber employees who identify as Black/African and are interested in joining this ERG are invited to send an email to patricia.suleiman@humber.ca.
