In early December 2021, Humber officially launched a group for people who identify as white and/or as having white skin privilege to examine how they have been conditioned by their whiteness and how it shows up in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and within their institutions (home, work, educational, religious, etc.). The Unlearning Circle: Humber employees dismantling whiteness focuses on unpacking and dismantling white supremacy culture and unlearning it.

The Circle held its first meeting in February 2022 and its second meeting in March 2022. The meeting materials and further information on The Unlearning Circle can be found on its webpage. The Circle's third meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 20, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

Interested in joining the circle or have questions about it? For more information email theunlearningcircle@humber.ca.

Join us for the 2022 Map the System Humber College final event on April 19 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

We will be celebrating another successful year of systems thinking by Humber students and announcing of the winning teams! The top team will advance to the Canadian Finals in May.

How do I attend this online event?

This live event will take place on Blackboard. Register for the event.

What is Map the System?

Map the System is a global competition run by Oxford University that challenges students from any discipline to explore a complex problem that they care about using systems thinking. Rather than jumping straight into innovation and new solutions, Map the System asks students to understand issues at a deeper level and to investigate the scope of existing efforts to solve the problem before recommending their own points of intervention.

Join us in supporting and celebrating student systems thinking work and hear the announcement of the winning teams.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with sara.hassan@humber.ca.

Humber faculty are invited to a consultation on Humber’s Academic and Digital Campus Plans.

Earlier this year, Humber announced that it is building its Academic and Digital Campus Plans for 2022-2025. Between January and March 2022, we held virtual consultation sessions and circulated an online form to hear from our employees, students, alumni and program advisory committees about the future of teaching and learning at Humber. View summaries of these sessions.

On April 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., we are holding a consultation for Humber faculty. Faculty can register now.

We look forward to receiving your input.

Innovation is the creation of something completely new to the world and defined as “a new method, idea, product, or service”. So what exactly is “Indigenous innovation?” Is it innovation that is being applied to Indigenous people and communities or innovation that is led by Indigenous peoples or both?

“Indigenous innovation” should have some key characteristics: blending of traditional Indigenous knowledge, principles and ways of knowing with modern methods and frameworks for decision-making and problem solving.

We will explore some examples of historical contributions to innovation by Indigenous communities, what is happening now and what could happen in the future.
