The Office of Sustainability and the Libraries will be hosting Repair Cafés on April 3 and 8, fixing items from the Humber community that need repair.

We are recruiting skilled volunteers to help fixing items from the following categories:

  • Clothing
  • Appliances/small electronics
  • Bikes
  • Jewelry

There will be a few spots for fixers-in-training for those who wish to learn how to repair items alongside experienced volunteers.

Participating in the Repair Café will help students and faculty connect with the broader community, while also providing valuable experiential learning opportunities. By participating in this event, students will be able to:

  • Apply practical skills in real-world settings, helping to develop their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Engage in collaborative learning by working alongside professionals and peers from diverse fields.
  • Contribute to sustainability efforts, aligning with Humber's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
  • Receive recognition through the Co-Curricular Record Program.

Do your students or department have relevant skills to fix things? Would you like to volunteer as a fixer?

Please submit the Fixer Form if you are interested in volunteering.

A tadpole being held on a spoon of water.

Join education staff from the Humber Arboretum on World Aquatic Animal Day to discover what lives in a pond. All ages are welcome - yes, that means adults, too!

The Humber Arboretum has three ponds teeming with life. Our education team will lead you in safely and gently dipping a net into one of the ponds to see what organisms you can find in the water. Everything from aquatic insects to tadpoles and crayfish, you never know what you will find. We will help you identify and learn a little about the creatures you uncover. And don’t worry, none of the pond creatures will be out of the water for long; we will get everyone we pull out of the pond back in quickly, so as not to harm any of the organisms.

All are welcome, including both local families and staff and students from Humber Polytechnic and UofGH.

This event will be rain or shine. Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy footwear that may also get a bit wet. All equipment will be provided.
