We’re excited to announce that Humber is participating in the Map the System 2020 competition!

Map the System is a global competition that challenges us to think differently about social and environmental change. Rather than jumping straight into a solution, business plan or an idea to fix problems, Map the System asks us to use ‘systems thinking’ to understanding complex social and environmental challenges. 

Humber is one of the first Canadian colleges to participate in Map the System. 

We invite you to learn more on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:15 a.m. in room B216 (North Campus) and Friday, January 17 at 10:45 a.m. in G204 (Lakeshore Campus). The info session will last 45 minutes to one hour. 

What happens in Map the System? 

Students will: 

  • Develop systems level thinking
  • Formulate ways to visually map a complex system
  • Build research and presentation skills
  • Forge new connections with innovators and changemakers
  • Compete to be the winning Humber team that will travel to the Candian final in Montreal
  • Compete to present at the University of Oxford and win cash prizes

Faculty can: 

  • Share information about the competition to interested students
  • Embed the competition in a course you are teaching - join us!
  • Support student groups who register as independent Humber teams 

Student groups must register by February 5, 2020 at this link.

The Digital Business Student Association is pleased to announce the new webinar series #DigiTalks on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. during Winter 2020.

About this event

We will start by covering the basics of Canva – what it is, how to use it, the importance of it, and how it can contribute to business success.

Facebook Ads are essential to digital marketing success and lead generation in any company. We will learn how to design a Facecbook Ad graphic, as well as the back-end targeting technicality that makes a Facebook Ad successful. We will also cover the “do’s” and “don’ts surrounding Facebook Ads.

This webinar is delivered by Vik Joshi, Digital Marketing specialist and Social Media strategist.

NSERC Engage grants are designed to give innovative companies that operate from a Canadian base access to the knowledge, expertise and capabilities available at Humber. These grants are intended to foster the development of new research partnerships by supporting short-term research and development projects. A maximum grant of $25,000 over a period of normally six months will be awarded to support the project costs. Full details will be covered in the workshop.

Come to our party and discover the simplified application and decision processes that will enable funding for your applied research project. The mutually beneficial projects are expected to result in economic benefits to the (for-profit) company and to Canada and to build impactful longer-term collaborations between Humber and industry. This interactive and hands-on workshop series will acquaint participants with the process of applying for Engage grants. Participants will come away from the workshops with a greater sense of confidence and an understand of what it takes to be successful.

Every course at Humber has an online presence in Blackboard, Humber’s Learning Management System (LMS), which instructors can use to augment and enhance the classroom experience. Come learn how to navigate, add and remove content, use basic communication tools, and upload the Humber Template.

Note: Participants must have access to a Blackboard course to participate actively in this workshop.

  • Make sure you can access Blackboard.
  • If your central login ID or Password does not work, you will need to go to IT with photo ID and get them to do a reset. North Campus: NX 210, Lakeshore Campus: A212.
  • Be sure you have a course to work with in Blackboard. This could be a live site or better yet a DEV site or SANDBOX. Both a DEV site and Sandbox can be requested using the appropriate e-forms at its.humber.ca. Please note that this request can take up to 24 hours to be processed.

If you do not have access to Blackboard AND a site to work in you will not be able to actively participate in the workshop.
