Two white-tailed deer nuzzle in the Arboretum gardens in winter

Get ready for National Wildlife Week in Canada with this exploration of our largest local wildlife, the white-tailed deer.

First, join Humber Sustainability Research Analyst Farheen Kadwa for a talk on her B.Sc thesis project. For years, researchers have used photographs to identify individual whales and tigers based on visual characteristics – can the natural markings on a white-tailed deer’s face be used the same way? This talk will introduce a new criteria to identify white-tailed deer, while taking a look at some deer photographed on the Arboretum grounds.

Then after a snack break, head out with Arboretum staff for a walk in which we’ll share deer stories, discuss the challenges of deer from a gardening perspective, and look for signs of our current white-tailed residents.

This event is free but please register in advance thorught the Arboretum website to reserve your spot.

For students, this event can count towards a CCR Level One Learners and/or Nature and Ecology Specialty credit. Learn more about Co-Curricular Record learning at the Arboretum.
