Humber Let’s Talk, a mental health initiative aimed at reducing stigma and encouraging help-seeking among students, will take place the week of January 20. This year’s theme, "Nurturing the Whole You," emphasizes the multidimensional nature of mental health and the importance of holistic well-being.

The campaign aims to engage students in meaningful conversations about mental health while connecting them to valuable resources on campus and in the community. Throughout the week, students can participate in mental wellness activities, learn self-care strategies, and explore ways to nurture their overall well-being. A variety of events will be hosted throughout the week at both the North and Lakeshore campuses.

A few featured events are open to staff and faculty, including, Mind Matters: A Fireside Chat about Mental Wellness, safeTALK Training, and the Expressive Arts Hive.

Join us for an insightful panel discussion called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Driving Change for a More Inclusive Future.

This panel discussion will explore the impact of systemic barriers in the workplace, why these barriers persist, and the necessary steps to eliminate them. The goal is to drive sustainable change toward greater equity and inclusion for all.

As the future of work evolves, driven by AI and hybrid environments, HR professionals and people leaders must recognize their role in removing barriers to inclusion. However, we all share the responsibility of acknowledging our own biases and actively fostering an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, views, and identities in the workplace. This is a fundamental human imperative.

Why Attend?

Recruiters, HR professionals, and all proponents of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) will benefit from this event, gaining valuable insights and actionable takeaways that can help drive positive changes in their organizations. Join us for this insightful discussion including:

  • Discussions on recognizing and dismantling barriers to equity, such as discrimination, wage gaps, and lack of access to resources or mentorship.
  • Opportunities to connect with EDI advocates, share experiences, and discuss strategies for fostering more inclusive spaces in various fields.
  • Presentation of a new EDI learning program offered by Humber Polytechnic Live music and appetizers and refreshments.

Moderator:

  • Ingrid Wilson, Senior Human Resources Executive & CHRO, Equity & Inclusion Strategist

Panelists:

  • Rohan Thompson, Director of People and Equity, County of Dufferin
  • Tanya Sinclair, Founder, Black HRPC Black HR Professionals of Canada (and Senior Director Culture & Employee Experience, SE Health)
  • Silvia Gonzales-Zamora, Global Social Sustainability Leader, National DEI Practice Leader, Partner, KPMG
  • Dr. Yasmin Razack, Dean, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, Humber

Attendance at the event is free of charge.

We are also accepting donations, which can be made at: https://humber.ca/advancementandalumni/events/dei-panel-discussion.html

All proceeds will go towards a scholarship to support a New Beginnings student in continuing their education at Humber Polytechnic.

For Humber’s Earth Month, Humber Sustainability and the Library will be partnering with Repair Café Toronto to host Repair Cafés in April 2025. The event will be open to students and staff at Humber, as well as members of the local community.

A repair café is a community event where people bring broken items from home (e.g. bicycles, clothing, small appliances, books, etc.) to be repaired by volunteer fixers. The goal is to reduce land waste, promote reuse, and bring awareness to other sustainability initiatives like the Right to Repair

Do your students or department have relevant skills to fix things? Would you like to volunteer as a fixer?

Join our info session on January 14 from 12 to 12:30 p.m. to learn more about the event and ways to get involved.

Please email gabi.hentschke@humber.ca to register for the info session.
